“2:30 a.m. …well, isn’t that a sight?!”

She put the phone down, on the floor and lied back on her bed. With her eyes wide open, she started to stare at the ceiling. Silence… silence and heat. That kind of heat that makes you dream about a gigantic pool with blue clear water just waiting for you to dive in.

“Pedestrian… so pedestrian!!” she said to herself and closed her eyes letting the music to play on in her ears on those sad notes… she could have felt her heart beats, some pulsations in her fingers and the warm summer air coming by the window inside of her room to embrace and touch her small body… nothing, not even a small breeze of fresh air… her mind was empty, her body tired, her soul numb… her brain seemed to struggle to give a last order to her body to go to sleep…

All of the sudden, she felt like opening her eyes… the room seemed bigger than it was in fact… the walls broke down in a slow motion move, letting room for trees with long branches which seemed to call her to go to them… the ceiling melted and the full moon on the dark, summer sky, full of stars enlightened immediately everything around…

The girl stood up and started to walk with frightened, insecure steps towards the trees… her curiosity was higher than her fear… she felt like following that path. The path between the trees… she wasn’t sure where it was going to lead her and if she was doing the right thing, but there was no way turning back anyway… the path disappeared behind her in the dark of the night and her only option was to go ahead… the moon was her guide, the trees her brothers and sisters…

Few seconds later, at the end of the path she found a house… an old wooden house with the door wide open, but no lights switched on… the girl stepped inside a bit scared, but pushed by a force she couldn’t fight against… the floor made a strange noise once she stepped inside… a scary noise which seemed extremely loud in the silence of the night… the girl stopped thinking that then might have been the right moment to just get the hell out of there… instead, she kept on walking…

Small steps, one by one, towards the dark room that she saw at her left side… her heart beats were so loud and fast that she had the feeling that she was about to faint… Her mouth felt suddenly dry… she stopped. She felt like sitting down, but there were no chairs. Only a table in the middle of it with few documents on it. And him.

lionStanding up, with his back at her and few papers in his hand, the Stranger was so lost in whatever he was doing in that moment that he didn’t seem to notice the new presence in that room. His long shadow seemed to touch gently the floor in the moon light coming by the small window at his right side. His hair… oh! his beautiful hair made him look like a wild, but lazy lion enjoying a moment of silence in his own cage…

“Come! I’m done here! I’m ready! We can go now!” he said shortly, turning his body slowly towards her. He was smiling. Taken by surprise by his voice, the girl didn’t say a thing. Her heart seemed to stop. The time seemed to do the same. Only her dry mouth remembered her in a strange way that she was still there…

He looked at her big, but so scared brown eyes, he smiled again even larger than before, took her by the hand, grabbed some keys from the table and he took her out… she let herself lead by him in the dark of the night, not having enough power to even ask where he was taking her. They walked hand in hand for a while through the dark, but so beautiful woods… by the time they got to the road at the end of the woods, it was morning… the red sky seemed to say Hi! to her, and the fresh breeze of air, hope.

The girl stopped… on the sidewalk she saw a luxury car with two women on the back seats. They were smiling at her Stranger and seemed to wait for him. She felt then how he let go at her hand and happy like a boy he went to join the ladies… Her hand seemed empty without his, her soul even emptier…

A train stopped right in the very next second in front of her and the girl felt like she was forced to climb in, but still looking at the Stranger she was leaving behind, she whispered: “Pedestrian…. so pedestrian!!”
